Naturopathic medicine is a unique and comprehensive system of healthcare that primarily focus on identifying and treating the underlying root causes of illness, rather than just treating or suppressing the symptoms (warning signals).

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) use a functional medicine approach to determine underlying imbalances and dysfunction in the body, and help patients achieve optimal health and wellness by using natural, evidence-based and traditional therapeutic methods and remedies to resolve these imbalances and stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

These therapies may include:

Naturopathic therapies can be safely used on their own, or alongside conventional medical treatments.

NDs view the individual from a “whole person" perspective , incorporating the physiological, structural, psychological, social, environmental and lifestyle factors affecting the patient. They also emphasize illness prevention and a healthy diet and lifestyle.

NDs recognize that everyone is unique, so you can appreciate why naturopathic treatments must be tailored to the individual rather than the disease (ie. treating anxiety in one person may require a different approach versus another person with the same health concern).

Dr. Freda Tam, ND is a board-certified Naturopathic Doctor, and she is a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND), Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CCNM), and is licensed in Ontario through the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO).

Dr. Tam has been practicing family naturopathic medicine since 2012 with a clinical focus in digestive concerns, women’s health, and mental-emotional wellness.
